Triad Red Contrast: Postpartum
Juanita Holmes is a Brooklyn based multidisciplinary artist, examining expressions of anxiety, motherhood, Blackness and play. She obtained a BFA in Fashion Design from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2013.
Her work ranges in mediums from pottery to water-based paints and printmaking. Her work within abstraction focuses on balance between the planned and unconscious and her figurative work enjoys the discovering true interiority, searching for the honestly behind presentation.
Artists Note:
This work is one of a series paintings that focuses on the balance between the unconscious and intension. The series began as a daily practice exercise to reclaim my art making practice after the birth of my daughter. I found the very difficult to still my mind to focus on my own body and thought. The requirement of these paintings to maintain both complete focus and lack of planning was the beginning of my rediscovering
